Funeral Service: 1:30 P.M. Saturday, May 28, 2005 at the Centenary United Methodist Church in Beatrice, NE.

L. Lorine Sargent, 88 years of age, of Beatrice, NE. passed away at her home Wednesday morning, May 25, 2005. She was born on September 4, 1916 at Mendon, MO., was a 1934 graduate of Mendon High School, Mendon, MO. and a 1938 graduate of the Missouri Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in St. Joseph, MO. She and Robert J. Sargent Sr. were married on June 15, 1940 in Beatrice, NE. She had lived in St. Joseph, MO. from 1938-1947, then lived in Lincoln, NE., Davenport and Cedar Rapids, Iowa before moving to Beatrice, NE. in 1960. She was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church in Beatrice, NE. and the Asbury-Epworth Circle of the church. She was a member of the Beatrice Shrove #10- B.P.O. Does; Beatrice Federated Women's Club; Daughters of the Nile; Vesper Chapter #9, O.E.S. and the Beatrice Rose Society. She had been a Red Cross Volunteer. She was a charter member of the Community Players First Nighters; charter member of the Beatrice Public Library Foundation; was a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow; and Beatrice Community Hospital Foundation Centurion. She was a past member of the Women's Division and the Ambassadors of the Beatrice Chamber of Commerce and was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Women's Division of the Chamber in 1999. She was also a past member of the Beatrice Bowling Association. She enjoyed baking, crocheting, her club associations, and her family.

Survivors include her daughter Karen K. Dorf of Beatrice, NE.; son Robert J. Sargent Jr. and his wife Cheryl of Beatrice, NE.; 7 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 1 step great grandson; and brother Wilfred Chapman and his wife Mary Alice of Mendon, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents Leslie and Julia (Scranton) Chapman; husband Robert J. Sargent Sr. (former mayor of Beatrice) (December 16, 1990); daughter Patty Jo Cole; grandson Jeffrey Scott Cole; sisters Marjorie Nannen and Georgia Mae Chapman.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Saturday, May 28, 2005 at the Centenary United Methodist Church in Beatrice, NE. with Reverend Richard D. Turner officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Home Cemetery in Beatrice, NE. The body will lie in state Friday from 10-9:00 and Saturday from 9-11:00 at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice, NE. and at the church one hour preceding the services on Saturday. The family will greet friends Friday from 6-8:00 at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice, NE. A memorial has been established to the church and the Beatrice Community Players with Diane Baxa and Dennis Boesiger in charge. Messages of condolence may be sent to [email protected].
