Karen Kay Sargent Dorf died at age 77 on April 13, 2018 following treatment for end stage kidney failure. She was born in Beatrice on January 23, 1941 to Robert J., Sr. and L. Lorine (Chapman) Sargent. During her lifetime she attended school in Beatrice, Lincoln, Davenport, Iowa and graduated from George Washington Senior High in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1959. She attended one year at the University of Iowa, one year at the University of Nebraska Lincoln and graduated from Bishop Clarkson School of Nursing in Omaha in 1964 as a Registered Nurse. She married the love of her life December 4, 1965 and was divorced 30 years later.

She spent 45 years in the nursing profession, having worked at the Lutheran Hospital, Beatrice Community Hospital, Dr. C.R. Brott, BSDC, Mosaic, and Beatrice Public Schools at Paddock Lane Elementary School. She followed in her mother’s footsteps caring for several family members, her in-laws, and some private duty with homebound elderly ladies. She was a 50+ year member of Centenary United Methodist Church; Beta Sigma Phi; Circle of Friends singles; Deborah Church Circle; and was the first Weight Watchers leader in Beatrice. Her hobbies were baking, collecting recipes and chocolate.

She is survived by her daughter Kristi Dorf; son, Melvin Dorf, Jr. and wife Donita; 3 granddaughters, Emily Dorf and special friend Michael Norris, Elizabeth Rubin and husband Daniel, and Katie Dorf and special friend Alex Mohr; grandson, Trey Brewer and wife Megan; one great grandson, Dean Brewer; brother, Robert Sargent, Jr. and wife Cheryl; Nieces and Nephews; Brad Cole (Nicole), Angie Muller, Robert (Chris) Neater, Rich (Rebecca) Sargent, Christopher Neater, and Holly (Cory) O’Dell; honorary niece, Debbie Frank; honorary sister, Pat Meyer; Beta Sigma Phi sorority sisters; several Circle of Friends singles; and her faithful companion dog, Sammy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; sister, Patty Cole; nephew, Jeff Cole, and several aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at the Centenary United Methodist Church with Pastor Mark Schutt officiating. A family prayer service will begin at 10:15 AM. Burial will be at the Evergreen Home Cemetery. The body will lie in state Tuesday from 12-5 PM, Wednesday from 9 AM-9 PM with family greeting friends from 6-8PM at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel, and at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Centenary United Methodist Church kitchen remodel with the funeral home in charge.
