Solemn Services Today At Buckman For John Bauer

Solemn funeral rites are being conducted this morning at 10 at St. Michael's church, Buckman, for John Bauer, 86, who passed away Monday morning at his home in Buckman township, after being ill for several months. Rev. Paul Kunkel is the celebrant of the Mass, with a nephew of the deceased, Fr. Francis Britz, St. Cloud, and Fr. Richard Leisen, Pierz, assisting as deacon and subdeacon. Interment is being made in the Buckman cemetery.

Pallbearers are Eddie Bauer, Leo Perleberg, Henry Roden, Kenneth Kowitz, Herbert Britz, and Wilfred Waytashek.

He was born in Trier, Germany, came to America at the age of 9, and in 1903 moved from Danbury, Iowa to Buckman, where he was married, October 3, 1905 to Catherine Britz. A retired farmer, he had served as chairman of the school board in his district for 20 years.

Surviving him are his wife, five sons and three daughters: Leo and Lawrence, Buckman Township; Wm. at home; Raymond, Elizabeth, Ill.; Irvin, and Mrs. Harold Baumgardner (Cecelia), St. Cloud; Mrs. William Basset (Dorothy), Grass Valley, Calif.; and Mrs. John Moyland (Helen), Philadelphia. There are two sisters: Mrs. Rose Erickson, Spokane, Wash. and Mrs. Maggie Hayes, Correctionville, Iowa. There are 20 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
