Namesake of Phyllis Scheiber (b. Phyllis Tlumack, 1950, daughter of Diana and granddaughter of Lillian)

Also notable as the only one of my ancestors of this era who wasn't a Jewish tailor. Philip was first an "operator" (at the time of Lillian's birth), then various kinds of retailer, including owner of a dry goods store, before becoming a real estate agent. At the time of his death, he was 1/3 owner of two realty companies: P.R.P. Realty Corp and Moscowitz Bros. Realty Corp. Each owned an apartment building in Williamsburg.

Born in Poland (or "Rus Polen" as he wrote for his marriage), his father was Hersh and his mother is called Chaya Stein on his death certificate and Feiga Shanorer (or similar) on his marriage certificate.

He married Dinah Rosenthal in 1895 and had three children, Lillian (born as "Chaie") (married Louis Newman in 1919), Joseph, who became Joseph L. Morse, and Gertrude, who married Frank Berkoer in the 1930s. When Dinah died in 1923, Philip and Gertie moved to live with Louis and Lillian.

He died after a short stay in Liberty Nursing Home (now closed). His son Joseph and Louis Newman were named joint executors of his will.
