"Henry Dews, Sr., Grocer, Is Dead; Rites Tomorrow
Henry Leroy Dews, Sr., 65, of 813 Freeman Avenue, South Norfolk, operator of a grocery in Benmorreell, died yesterday at 7:30 p.m. in a Portsmouth hospital after an illness of one month.
A native of Princess Anne County, he had resided for 10 years in South Norfolk. He was a member of Raleigh Heights Baptist Church. His parents were William Henry and Mrs. Lorraine Estelle Collins Dews.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Nina Hatchell Dews; two daughters, Mrs. J. L. Curry of South Norfolk, and Mrs. R. R. Davis of Bayside, Princess Anne County; two sons, Ernest G. Dews, of Norfolk, and Henry L. Dews, Jr., of South Norfolk; three sisters, Mrs. Sarah Taylor Jones, of South Norfolk; Mrs. R. H. Nunnally, of Arlington, and Mrs. H. E. Bowen, of Nags Head, N. C.; two half-sisters, Mrs. Bessie Forbes and Mrs. Lillie Dowdy, both of South Norfolk, and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow at 3 p.m., at the Graham Funeral Home, South Norfolk. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park."
