Benjamin Wyche was born October 22, 1829 in Granville County, North Carolina, and died July 09, 1887. Benjamin was a son of James and Pamela (Evans) Wyche of Brunswick County, Virginia. James was President of Raleigh and Gaston Railroad when he passed away, and Pamela was the daughter of Revolutionary War veteran, Lieutenant William Evans.

Benjamin married (1) Sarah Elizabeth Hunter on November 21, 18541, daughter of Thomas C. Hunter and Mary A. Lewis. She was born September 28, 1832, and died July 22, 1871. He married (2) Eugenia Belgrave Phipps on November 17, 1873 in Home of A. C. Steed, Warren County, North Carolina, daughter of J. N. and Mary E. She was born April 14, 1836 in Brunswick County, Virginia, and died May 25, 1914 in South Boston, Virginia.

Together with Sarah and Eugenia, Benjamin raised 11 college educated children. Among them were Mary Lewis Wyche, nursing pioneer, and Pearl Eugenia Wyche, social work pioneer.
