She was the daughter of Irwin Yawn who died in the Civil War in Richmond, VA.(1863), and Elizabeth Smith Yawn, who died in Coffee Co., GA, during child birth(1860). Janie was taken in and raised by Henry & Sarah Paulk. After her marriage to Richard Benjamin (Ben) Luke they were the parents to 15 children - Lucious L., Riley R., John J., Eunie (Vickers), Olive (Smith, Youngblood), Elizabeth, Ida (Smith), Henry, Oscar L., Thomas, Tally L., Malissie (Batten), Youngie, Allie (Tyson), and Ruby (Gaskins).
