William Jesse Burroughs was born near Baltimore, Maryland in 1809. He moved to Iowa with his family in 1865, and became a pioneer settler in Hickory Grove.
William was married to Priscilla Breeden Burroughs. He was the father of Richard Jesse Burroughs, William Henry Burroughs, John Lockhart Burroughs, Melinda (Linnie) Mae Burroughs Rose, Alfred Burroughs, Susan Burroughs Child, Pearl Mary Burroughs Bartlett, Sarah (Sadie) Priscilla Burroughs Adams, Catherine (Cassie) Victoria Burroughs Bartlett, and Arthur William Burroughs.
