Alfred Burroughs was a lawyer with the firm of Norris & Burroughs in Grinnell, Iowa. In 1890, Alfred Burroughs married Mary Louise Hedges Burroughs. Mary was the daughter of pioneer Grinnell physician, Dr. Thomas Hedges and Lois McCoy Hedges.
Alfred and Mary were the parents of four children: Esther Mary Burroughs, Florence Louise Burroughs Dunn, Thomas William Burroughs, and George Alfred Burroughs.
Alfred Burroughs was the son of William Jesse Burroughs and Priscilla Breeden Burroughs.
