Note: The tombstone posted by Va. Gentry gives the birth date of William as 1825. His parents did not marry until 1828. It is considered the birth date on the stone is incorrect. William was age 20 on the 1850 KY census and 31 on the 1860 Douglas Co. MO census (Post Office was Falling Spring, Dwelling 377).

The marriage of William to Elizabeth was not found. A descendant reports her name was Elizabeth Ann Martin. On the 1850 KY census they had a son, Washington (James Washington), that was less than one year of age. On the 1860 Douglas Co. MO census he was age 12.

Elizabeth was not in the household on the 1860 census. The children were James 12, Sarah 8, Nancy O. 8, John W. 3 and Roanna 2. The latter two were born in MO. this would indicate that William and Elizabeth relocated from KY to MO between 1852 and 1857 and that Elizabeth died between 1858 and 1860. The descendant that reported Elizabeth as Elizabeth Ann Martin has William marrying Nancy______ in MO and that he died 26 March 1913 in Douglas Co. MO and buried in the Old Horton Cemetery in Howell Co. MO which agrees with the posted tombstone.

William was living in Douglas Co. MO when the land of his father was sold in Pulaski Co. KY. He made a deed dated 16 March 1897 (PC DB 59, P 342) to Ancil Brassfield who was married to his sister Temperence (Tempy). He sold his interest for $25.00.
