Born in Ashe Co., NC, the son of Mathias and Sally Sheets Harmon. The family moved to Washington County in the early 1820s. Cutliff married Peninah Newby on 6/24/1830. They had 10 known children.

"Cutliff Harmon Will"

I Cutliff Harmon of the State of Indiana Washington County being weak in body but in perfect mind and memory knowing that all men must die I make and ordain this my last will and testament first of all I direct that after my decease that my body be buried in a decent manner at the disposal of my friends and as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life. I give demise and depose of the same in the following manner and form first I give and bequeth unto my beloved wife Peninah during her widowhood all my real and personal estate to be held and freely possest and enjoyed during her widowhood. In case of the death of my wife before all my children be of age then and in that case I direct that the proceeds of all my real estate to go to the support and maintenance of my miner children. My elder children has received property of me as follows to wit. Nineveh has received two hundred and fifty eight dollars Anna has received one hundred and thirty eight dollars Catherine has received two hundred and eight dollars Jasper has received one hundred and eighty two dollars. I direct that my younger children not named in this will as they cum of age or marry my wife may set them of as we have the older children. I ordain that my beloved wife Peninah be executrix of my my last will and testament enduring her life. In case of death I order that all my personal estate be sold on the twelve months credit and when the money is collected to be divided among all my children equal. I also order that when my beloved wife Peninah ceases to be my widow and my younger children cums of age all my real estate be divided equal among all my heirs declaiming ties to be my last will and testament revoking all other wills by me made in witness where of I have set my hand and seal this the 10 day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty 1860. Signed published and delivered by the said Cutliff Harmon as his last will and testament in the presence of us who in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names.
