She attended Wiscasset schools, Wiscasset Academy and Lincoln Academy in Newcastle.
In April 9, 1927, she married Charles Barnes. She was employed at Regional Hospital in Brunswick as a nurse's aide for seven years and a cook at the Miss Wiscasset Diner for seven years.
Mrs. Barnes was a member of the Woolwich Grange.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles S. Barnes on March 15, 1978; and two sons, Carl Barnes and Richard Barnes; one brother, Albert Erskine; and one sister, Winnefred Gott.
Survivors include six sons, Charles A. Barnes and his wife Billie of Wiscasset, Robert Barnes and his wife Betty of Richmond, Va., Roy Barnes and his wife Aleene of Wiscasset, David W. Barnes and his wife Gloria of Phippsburg, William W. Barnes and his wife Gloria of Wiscasset, and Kingsley G. Barnes of Pittson; two daughters, Carlene Wright of Woolwich, and Sandra Barnes and companion, Clark Colby of Wiscasset; one brother, Hollis Erskine of Littleton, N.H.; three sisters, Helen Gorham of Coves Edge in Damariscotta, Marcia Munsey and Pearl Skillings and her husband Erwin, all of Wiscasset; many grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours were held Monday, April 4 at Mayo & Daigle Funeral Home in Wiscasset. A funeral service was held Tuesday, April 5 at the funeral home with Rev. John Potter officating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Wiscasset at a later date.
