~ Tecumseh High School '26

~ University of Oklahoma '30...Phi Beta Kappa. She also earned her Masters in Botany, and wrote her much acclaimed and often reprinted Masters Thesis on the "Vascular Plants of Pottawatomie County Oklahoma" in 1934, which remains in the OU Library.

~ Married Fred Barkley in 1930 and had 3 children with him, Bob, Bill and Anne. Fred more or less abandoned his young family in 1940....Elizabeth returned home to OK where she raised the children in the home of her parents. She was employed by the State of Oklahoma in the Welfare Dept at the Pottowatamie Co Courthouse in Shawnee, and worked there for 20 years.

~ She remarried Fred in about 1960 and joined him at his post in Bagdad Iraq for a time, before moving on to Boston MA and his work at Northeastern University. She would return to Tecumseh in the summers to keep up her home there, where they both eventually retired to. They also lived for a time in both Honduras and Columbia.

~ She was present with her daughter Anne B Powers in CA at the birth of her only (blood) grand child, John Vincent Powers in 1961. She shared much of her knowledge and love of her families rich history with young Vince, to whom she made clear was to be the "keeper of the Keys" (vast collection of Family Docs, etc) upon her death. Thanks to her fore-sight, much of this collection of her Parents (Ducker & Wheeler) and Grandparents, has now been added to Ancestry .com (Tree: John Vincent Powers).

~ She was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church in Tecumseh and was always well regarded by all in her community.
