Reverend John Walker Stovall, Methodist Episcopal Church South, was educated at Vanderbilt University and served pastorates in various places in south Texas including Laredo, San Antonio, Cuero, and San Angelo. He participated in the governance of the Coronal Institute in San Marcos in the 1880s and later. He was Presiding Elder (District Superintendent) of the San Marcos, Texas District when he died. He married Mary Bruce Word on May 13, 1895.
