On the afternoon of March 22, 1996. the angel of silence came and bore the bright spirit of James Oscar Anderson away to a land free from sickness, sorrow and pain. He bore his illness patiently and though everything was done to relieve his pain and prolong his life; it was God's will that he should go. He was born on November 10, 1919, to the late Rev. Robert S. Anderson Sr. and Henrietta M. Slaughter Anderson in Portamount, New Hampshire. In 1929 his family moved to Richmond, VA, where he joined Fifth Baptist Church. He received most of his formal education in the public schools and Union University. He enlisted in tile United States Army and served during World War II. After being Honorably Discharged from the service, James moved to New York City and worked for the New York Transit System until he retired and moved to South Boston, VA in 1975. He was an active member of Mount Olive Baptist Church. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He leaves to mourn his passing, his loving wife, Jean Kent Anderson; one son, James 0. Anderson, Jr.; two daughters, Jaunita Anderson Cole and Taia Anderson Hicks; one foster sister, Angelia Jackson; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Marculla Anderson; one son-in-law, Jerry T. Cole; two mothers-in-law, Grady B. Kent and Sylvia V. Kent; five sisters-in-law, Mary S. Anderson, Wilhelmina K. Ballou, Thelma Y. Kent, Emma Jean B. Kent, and Michelle A. Kent; a host of nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.
