C.L. was the son of George A. and Julia Ann Stephens Paul. He was a farmer, blacksmith, and section foreman for the Ocilla Southern Railroad. His first wife was Annie Bell Smith. They were the parents of 10 children: George A., Trudie, Lena, Clyde R., Jerry, Bertha Marie, Walter (Bud), Emily, C.L., Jr., and George Cook (Doc). Plus Annie's son, William F. Brown. After Annie's death he married Leat Taylor Stevens Shirley. He and Leat had 7 children: Harvey, Mary, Ann, John, Hazel, Catherine, and Gene. Also Leat's children: Mamie Stevens, Martin and Lillie Shirley. He was very active in the Masons.
