Died Thursday June 26, 2003 at Friendship Village.
Doris was born December 10, 1907 in Battle Creek, MI, the daughter of Robert and Una (Rogers) Longman. She attended Battle Creek Schools and in 1931 graduated from Battle Creek College with a Bachelor of Science Degree. In 1946, Doris received a Masters of Science from Simmons College/Harvard School of Public Health. Throughout her life she continued her studies at the University of New Mexico, Western Michigan University and the Kalamazoo Institute of Art. Doris applied her nutritional background many ways. She was Chief Nutritionist at Brooklyn Hospital, Brooklyn New York, worked at the New York Health Department for over seven years, worked in nutrition research at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health and was an Area Nutritionist for the Indian Health Service, U.S. Public Health Service, working in nine states during 17 years. Doris retired to Kalamazoo in 1975. In 1958, she was listed in the first edition of Whos Who of American Women. In retirement, she remained active as a member of the American Dietetic Association and was a founding member of the American Dietetic Association Foundation. She found joy in writing poetry and painting, especially Native American scenes.

Her parents, 4 siblings: Arthur Longman, Ella Davis, Katherine Gannoway, and Roberta Carbine and 1 nephew, Jack Carbine, preceded her in death. She is survived by 3 nephews: James Longman of North Carolina, Neil Davis of California, Jerry Carbine of Battle Creek and several loving grandnieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Saturday 10:30 AM at the Floral Lawn Cemetery Chapel where services will be held at 11:00 AM, Rev. James Dyke officiating.
