Jo Ann Whittenberg, Oklahoma City, OK.

A heart of gold stopped beating, two shiny eyes at rest. God broke our heart to prove He only takes the Best. God knows you had to leave us, but you did not go alone For a part of us went with you, the day He took you home. To some you are forgotten, to others, just a part of the past. But to us who loved and lost you, your memory will always last. Today we paused in respect and bowed in humble submission to the will of our Heavenly Father Who has claimed one of His own, my beautiful daughter, Ms. Joe Ann Whittenberg died April 19, 1995, a victim in the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Building.

She was born one of a set of Identical twins on Feb 6, 1960 in Oklahoma City, OK to Howard & Lee Ann Whittenberg.

Jo Ann graduated from John Marshall High School in 1978. She worked for a number of years for the Dept. of Housing and Urban Development and was currently a program assistant.

She was preceded in death by her father, Howard Whittenberg; maternal grandparents, Otto Sr and Adell Caldwell; paternal grandparents Jasper & Alice Whittenberg.

Jo Ann leaves to cherish her precious memory her loving mother Lee Ann of the home; her identical twin sister Mary Ann; uncle Otto Caldwell Jr.; a great aunt, 3 aunts & a host of other relatives & friends & our pet dog, Toby.

Jo Ann loved working for HUD and all the people there.

"My heart aches for you. There is nothing that can replace your living smile. Everyone loved you and I will always miss you. A child is a precious gift, my daughter. Your sister and I will always miss the joy and happiness your life has brought us."

A procession will leave McKay Davis Funeral Home, 1616 NE 36th Street. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 28, 1995, Trice Hill Cemetery 5105 N. Coltrane Road.

Published in the Daily Oklahoman Newspaper Thursday April 27, 1995 page 36.

Extra Note: On April 19, 1995, a truck bomb shattered the lives of many Oklahomans when it ripped away the north side of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in downtown Oklahoma City. Jo Ann was one of those victims.

Jo Ann was a program assistant at the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) located on the 7th floor of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building.

Jo Ann was 35 and was known for the Italian cream and 7-Up pound cakes that she took to work and bake sales. "She was just a genuinely sweet person who was concerned about everyone,"said her mother, Lee Ann Whittenberg, she also has a twin sister.

Sitting in nine rows, one for each floor of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, the chairs represent the 168 victims. Each chair is made of stone and hand-crafted bronze, and rests on a glass base etched with the name of the victim it represents. Jo Ann's memorial chair is in the 7th row chair 19 (see photo of this memorial page).
