Gabrielle and Richmond Pearson made their home at Richmond Hill, a beautiful Victorian manor house that they built near Asheville, NC. They had four children, but only two survived childhood: Marjorie Noel Pearson (1890-1972) and James Thomas Pearson (1893-1963). Neither married. Thomas Pearson was also in the foreign service.
Richmond Pearson died in 1923. Gabrielle obtained a passport to visit her son in Europe in 1924. I don't know if she died there. I can't find a death certificate for her in Buncombe Co., and don't know the date of her death, other than the year. I presume she was buried next to her husband and children. (Update, found an obit in the Richmond newspaper. She died in New York.)
Richmond Hill became a museum in the 1950s, and was deserted after Miss Marjorie Pearson's death. It came near to being demolished in the 1970s, but the Preservation Society of Asheville saved it, by moving it from it's original location to a tract of land nearby. It was subsequently restored and made into a beautiful inn. Sadly, it burned down on the night of 18-19 March 2009.
