FAIRFIELD - Russell W. Taylor, 70, of Fairfield passed away on Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, at the Maine Veteran's Home in Augusta. He was born on Jan. 29, 1934, in Fairfield Center, a son of Gardner and Nora (O'Neil) Taylor. He attended school and earned his General Educational Development diploma from Lawrence High School in Fairfield.
He was a 50-year member of the Victor Grange in Fairfield Center.
He was also a veteran, having served in the Air Force from 1952-56, including during the Korean War.
He had been employed by the Harris Baking Co. in Waterville, and retired from the former Keyes Fibre Co. after 31 years of service, having worked at the Shawmut plant as well as the plant in Waterville.
He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Fairfield Memorial Post 6924. He was also a member of the Emerson Lane American Legion Post in Richmond. He was a past commander of the VFW post in Fairfield as well as district commander. He served in various chairmanships in the department until he was taken ill. He also enjoyed volunteering his time at Togus and the veterans home. He was also grand commander in MOC. (Military Order of the
Cooties) and supreme district commander of the MOC.
He was predeceased by his parents, as well as two brothers, Harry Neal Taylor and Raymond S. Taylor; and one sister, Ethel Corson.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Elizabeth Betty (Frost) Taylor of Fairfield; his children, Debra and her husband, Robert Leonard, of Benton, Vicki and her husband, Richard Eastman, of Fairfield, Dana Young and his wife, Michelle, of Detroit, Lois and her husband, Raymond Dyer, of Vassalboro, and Keith Young and his wife, Elaine, of Waterville; brothers Ernest L. Taylor of Fairfield Center, and Clyde L. Taylor and his wife, Jeannette, of Scarborough; sisters Margret T. Furbush of Boothbay Harbor, Alma T. Brown of China, and Ila T. Mowsesian and her husband, Richard, of Austin, Texas; 11 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews. (Morning Sentinel 8/9/2004)
