PFC Richard Belinge is fondly remembered by the soldiers with whom he served from the 1st Battalion (Mechanized), 50th Infantry, Company A, 1st Platoon.

Post a note on our "Message Board" and possibly some of our members who served with Richard will respond. Search our site for photos and other documentation and(or) contact me (Jim Sheppard, Association Historian) at [email protected] for details about our Memorial for our men lost in action at the current day 1st Battalion, 50th Infantry Headquarters at Fort Benning, Georgia. Memorial Wreath Laying Ceremonies are held every two years at the reunions of the 50th Infantry Association.

Private First Class Richard Belinge, "A" Company, 1st Battalion (Mechanized), 50th Infantry, attached: 4th Infantry Division, was killed along with Charles Moomey and Jim Stolinski when the Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) they occupied, riding point, hit a large mine. Several other members of the 1st Platoon were ingured in the blast as well, including Bob Wuestenberg, who described the event for the %0th Infantry Association Memorial files. He relates: "I recall moving in the sand along a tree-lined bank to our left. Stolinski asked if he could drive the APC…and he and the driver switched. Stolinski maneuvered the APC into a left hand turn to climb the bank and hit the mine". PFC Belinge was awarded the Bronze Star, Citation read:

"For distinguishing himself by outstanding meritorious service in connection with ground operations against a hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam during the period from January 1968 to March 1968. Through his untiring efforts and professional ability, he consistently obtained outstanding results. He was quick to grasp the implications of new problems with which he was faced as a result of the ever-changing situations inherent in the counterinsurgency operation and to find ways and means to solve those problems. The energetic application of this extensive knowledge has materially contributed to the efforts of the United States mission to the Republic of Vietnam to assist that country in ridding itself of the communist threat to its freedom. His initiative, zeal, sound judgment and devotion to duty have been in the highest tradition of the United States Army and reflect great credit on him and on the military service."
