Allen Pfitzenmaier, 79, of Cty. Rte. 27, passed away unexpectedly Sunday (March 15, 2009) at his home.

Allen was born Aug. 25, 1929 in Hornell, NY to Ernest and Frances (Allen) Pfitzenmaier. He was predeceased by his parents and one brother, William Pfitzenmaier.

He was a life-long resident and dairy farmer in the Town of Howard. Allen had been an active member and fire chief for 15 years for the Howard Vol. Fire Dept. and later became a charter member for his service. He was on the Steuben County Fire Advisory board for many years, was on the REA board of directors for 40 years and for a short period of time worked for the Town of Howard Highway Dept. He was a member of the former Lewis Lodge No. 104 F&AM in Howard where he was Master in 1962. He later became a member of Morning Star Lodge No. 65 F&AM in Canisteo.

Survivors include a nephew, William (Kim) Pfitzenmaier of Howard; one niece, Stacey (Edward) Rohan of Windsor; four great nieces, Rosie (Ryan) Jones of Windsor, Kady Rohan of Hampton, Va., Kaylee and Brittany Pfitzenmaier of Howard.

Funeral and committal services were held the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo,NY. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery in Canisteo.
