MIDDLE NAME Washington - About 1990, descendants of George Washington Nichols donated funds to buy this stone and replace the wooden cross and field stone that had previously marked his grave. The grandchildren disagreed on what his middle name was: many remembered it was George Washington Nichols, and some felt it was George William Nichols. The gravestone was ordered by one that thought his middle name was William, so a mistake was made.
