Earl Hilburn of Wilmington died Sunday, September 27, 1998, at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center.
He was born in Wilmington, N.C., on March 19, 1925, the son of the late L.J. and Jane Connor Hilburn and was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Williamson Hutto Hilburn. He was also preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and Al Savage.
Earl was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the naval destroyer USS McDermott. He was the former owner and operator of Earl's Exxon on Carolina Beach Rd. He was a member of the Coffee Club at the Landfall McDonalds and was an avid golfer.
Surviving are his son, Jerry M. Hutto and wife, Veronica of Leland; his daughter, Doris Millard and husband, Terry of Wilmington; one sister, Lenore Hilburn of Wilmington; six grandchildren, Karen Allen and husband, Michael, Jamie Hutto, Brian Hutto, Brad Hutto, Melissa Millard and Kevin Millard; and two great-grandchildren, Lauri and Cary Allen.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, September 29, 1998, at Andrews Mortuary, Valley Chapel, by Dr. Marc Drake and Rev. Michael Tutterow. Interment will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Andrews Mortuary, Valley Chapel, 4108 S. College Rd.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of his Sunday School Class.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
