William Alexander is my great grandfather. There was always some dispute in the family as to his birth year. I know his headstone says 1869, but that is not accurate. He was born 02 FEB 1857. You can verify this by looking at the 1860 census, which was done, in their area, on 01 JUL 1860, and it shows William 3yrs old. If he had been born in '59, he would only be 1 yr old by JUL 1860. This is one reason I look for the actual date the census was done, which can usually be found at the top of the census record page.
