Purkey, Chester F. Jr., 65, Gessler Drug warehouse manager & pharmacy technician, passed away January 31, 2009. Funeral service 1:00 p.m. Wednesday with graveside Navy Honor Guard at Resthaven Mortuary. Chester was born June 17, 1943 in Wichita where he grew up and graduated from North High in 1961. He was a Vietnam veteran serving in the US Navy from 1964-1968 aboard the USS Ranger. He attended WSU for 2 years and was an employee of Gessler Drugs for 40 years. He married Joan, his high school classmate, on December 23, 1989. He was a member of both IPMS and VFW. Preceded in death by parents Chester & Dorothy Purkey and brother Jimmie Purkey. Survivors include wife Joan; stepson Mark (Rachel) Lofland of St. Louis, MO.; daughter Susan (John) Churchman of Goddard; brothers Harold (Nancy) Purkey of Overland Park, Steven (Marie) Purkey of San Antonio, TX; niece Julie; nephews Brad, Kent, Jimmie C., Ryan, Shawn, John, & Steve; grandchildren Lucas & Jacob Katzenmeier, Brendan & Jerrod Lofland. A memorial has been established with the American Diabetes Association.
