Biography: "ALEXANDER FLEMING, son of James and Jane Fleming and gson of James Fleming, was born 13 Nov 1828 in Allegheny Co PA and died 12 Feb 1906 at his farm on Carnahan Creek. Alexander was the son of an Irish emigrant and was a member of the United Presbyterian Church. On 2 Jun 1859 in Allegheny Co he married Susannah Carnahan, dau of John and Eliza Jane (Catherwood) Carnahan and gdau of John and Martha Carnahan. She was born 10 Jan 1838 in Allegheny Co and died 5 Oct 1903 at Garrison. She and Alexander are bur in the Carnahan Creek Cem. The Alexander Flemings resided in PA until the spring of 1867 when they homesteaded 250 acres of land near the Blue River, 18 miles north of Manhattan in Green Twp, Pott Co. They built a log cabin near a big spring on the banks of Carnahan Creek but by 1875 a large stone house had been erected west of the cabin where they lived until 1893 when they moved to the town of Garrison. Alexander had retired from farming and his son Robert took over the farm. He returned to the stone house in 1903 after the death of his wife and he died there. Alexander and Susannah's first three children were born in PA, the next two at the Carnahan Creek farm and the last at Garrison: John b 16 Feb 1861, d 20 May 1937 Manhattan, m 6 Mar 1885 Maggie M Weber; Eliza Mae b 25 Dec 1862, d 17 Oct 1931, m 23 Mar 1882 George Thomas; Jennie B b 14 May 1866, d 2 Oct 1938, m 19 Apr 1888 Stephen Harris; Robert J b 30 Jun 1867, d 14 Feb 1943 Orange Cove CA, m 2 May 1893 Catherine Jane Fry; Nancy Almira b 29 Dec 1869, d 31 Jul 1954, m 10 Oct 1889 Charls Currie, son of Walter P and Lydia Jane Currie; Anna Mary b 29 Mar 1879, d 3 Oct 1930 Reedley CA, m 14 Apr 1898 Elmer Harris."

Obituary: "ALEXANDER FLEMING DEAD. Alexander Fleming was born Nov. 13, 1826, in Allegheny County, Penn., and died Feb. 12, 1906. Rev. Hannum conducted the funeral held Tuesday, at the Carnahan Creek church. He was married May 13, 1852, to Jane Sefton who died five years later. June 2, 1851, he married Hannah Carnahan who died Oct. 5, 1903. To this union were born five sons and seven daughters of whom two sons and four daughters survive him. The Fleming family came to Kansas in March, 1867, twenty-nine years of the thirty-nine years residence in the state Mr. Fleming spent on his farm on Carnahan Creek."
