Edward was the "caller" of the Colorado Mining Stock Exchange, an attorney, and part owner of a laundry that had the slogan "The laundry that uses Ivory Soap." He served as Trustee of El Paso County, Colorado, an appointed position.

He gave community service as a Mason, and he served as Grand Master of the Masons in the state of Colorado. As Grand Master, he was quoted as saying, "The future is secure if we look well to our duties within." Edward also was a member of Centennial Chapter #58 Order of the Eastern Star in Colorado Springs, and he served as Worthy Patron for the 1903-1904 term. Edward was then elected to the OES Grand Line and was Worthy Grand Patron in 1906-1907. (Edward began as a Mason in Snow Lodge #305 in Groves, Indiana, and was in Tejon Lodge #104 in Colorado.)

He first married Maud E. MARTIN; with Maud, he had one daughter: Marguerite.

Edward, Maud, and their baby daughter moved from Indiana to Colorado shortly before 1900. Maud died before 1910.

On September 7, 1910, Edward secondly married Anna S. LEHTO. Edward and Anna had no children.

His name is included with his parents and his siblings on page 260 of the 1909 Hufford Family History. Edward's photograph is on page 262 of the book.
