Robert Willis Olson (Bobby) was born October 2, 1913, the son of Charles and Olga (Wallgren) Olson in Sturgeon Lake, MN. He attended local schools in Sturgeon Lake, MN, where he played baseball and took part in other sports. He was an outstanding baseball player, and had a tryout with a minor league baseball team.

He enlisted in the Navy in November of1942 and served during World War II. He served as a pharmacist's Mate Second Class and then First Class in the US Navy and completed fire fighter's school.

He met Dr. Frances Palmer when she was a doctor at the Moose Lake State Hospital and he was also working there. He married Dr. Palmer on January 9, 1946 in Illinois. There were no children by the marriage.

He later was a fire department employee with the US Air Force at World Chamberlain Field, Minneapolis, MN.

Bobby drowned at Crane Lake, near Cook, MN while on vacation with his wife Frances. He had been out fishing and came in about 8 P.M. Because he was taking out fish, he didn't secure the boat. When it floated away, he couldn't catch it with a hook, so he decided to swim out. Because of the extremely cold temperature of the water, when he was almost to the boat, he went down and never came up. Frances could not go to him because it was so cold. When found, he was in about 18 feet of water.
