NY Muster record lists his place of birth as Sicily. USA about 1858, and the 1920 US Census states about 1860. His year of birth varies on some military records, but he was clearly a young man when he arrived. The naturalization record shows he became a US citizen in 1870.
"Paul Bonavries, 85 years old, who had been Abraham Lincoln's barber, died at his home 706 C street, northeast. Monday, funeral services will be held in the chapel of Holy Rosary church tomorrow morning at 9 o'clock. Interment will be at St. Mary's cemetery."

Paul Bonavries shaved Notables
During Civil War, Paul Bonavries, barber to Abraham Lincoln when he was president and for many of the country's noted men during the Civil War period, is dead here; at the age of eighty-five. Bonavries first made the acquaintance of Lincoln in Albany, shaving him several times In that city. He came to Washington later and for several years he and an associate had the job of shaving the president.
• He was born in Italy and came to this country when a small boy. His barber shop for many years was on part of the present site of the Post Office Department. Senators and Representatives in the '60's and '70's[1860s and 70s] used to drop In daily. Bonavries knew hundreds of public men of those days. Mr. Bonavries is survived by his wife, four sons and eight daughters, all of whom live here. Funeral services will be held Thursday morning".∼Paul Bonavries was the barber to President Abraham Lincoln before he became President (in Albany, NY) and in Washington, DC.
Bonavries was also the great great great grandfather (paternal) of American musician Jeff Buckley.
