Mr. Hatter died Friday afternoon in the Veterans Hospital in Salem, where he had been a patient since Dec. 2, 1971.
A native of Nelson County, he was born Sept. 10, 1899, a son of Alonzo G. and Elizabeth Lotts Hatter. Until retirement in 1964 he had engaged in carpentry and farming. He was a member of the Lincoln Avenue Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Lucy Fitzgerald Hatter; five sons, Carl B. Hatter Jr. and Thomas G. Hatter, both of Manassas, William C. Hatter of Arlington, Harry A. Hatter of Salem and Robert A. Hatter of Staunton; two daughters, Mrs. Pauline Cash of Richmond and Mrs. Ellen Harlow of Staunton; two brothers, Frank Hatter of Lyndhurst and C. C. Hatter of Duhring, W. Va, Mrs. Willie Allen of Afton and Mrs. Jessie Smiley of Lynchburg; 21 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Active pallbearers were Paul H. Bratton, Guy D. Brooks, William A. Brooks, James F. Fauber, John H. Johnson and R. S. Thompson.
Honorary pallbearers were grandsons and grandsons-in-law.
The Fred Henry Funeral Home was in charge.
