Willa Irwin, 79, passed away on Tuesday, October 23, 2001, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.
Mrs. Irwin was born Annie Willa Cortell Kottraba on April 7, 1922, in Rozet, Wyoming, to Raymond Wilford and Kathryn May Kottraba. Raymond and Kathryn lived on a homestead south of Rozet where Willa began her life and entered the first grade. The family moved to Davenport, Nebraska, to live for two years, only to return to Rozet where Willa finished her schooling and graduated in 1941. She worked as a young woman on various ranches and taught school during World War II. She married William Russell Irwin on May 25, 1944, and the couple settled in Gillette, Wyoming. Russell worked for the CB & Q Railroad until his retirement in 1969. Upon his retirement, Willa and Russell lived in Buffalo, Wyoming, until November of 1998, when Willa moved to Sheridan Manor in Sheridan, Wyoming. She enjoyed crocheting, flowers, country music and cats.

Preceding Willa in death were her husband Russell; her parents; her brother Leland Kottraba; her stepdaughter Dorothy Irwin; and her daughter Willa Diane Irwin. Surviving Mrs. Irwin are her daughter Roberta Trenholm and husband Bob of Billings, Montana; her four sons, Raymond Irwin and his wife Chris of Douglas, Wyoming, James Irwin and his wife Barbara of Ranchester, Wyoming Charles Irwin and his wife Mary of Billings, Montana, and Duane Irwin and his wife Beverly of Sheridan, Wyoming; her stepson Leslie Irwin and his wife Virginia of Mayer, Arizona; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; her brother Charles Kottraba of Moorcroft, Wyoming; and her three sisters, Leola Thar of Gillette, Wyoming, Helen Whisler of Sheridan, Wyoming, and Hazel Riesland of Newcastle, Wyoming.

Viewing will be from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 25, 2001. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 26, 2001, at Kane Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Wetmore of the Sheridan Wesleyan Church officiating. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, October 26, 2001, at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Gillette, Wyoming.
