Stephen married Mary Emery April 22, 1759. He was an earnest, active and industrious citizen, and successful as a farmer. The youngest child, Stephen remained on the homestead and cared for his parents in their old age. He added eighty acres, to that homestead and built the first brick house in the town. An active member of the Christian Baptist Church, he hewed the timbers for its house of worship. For his labors he received title to some of the pews in the church. When asked, his descendants consented to alterations in those pews. Like all of his family he gave allegiance to the Democratic party.
