John B. Goodnight, 61, High Plains Retirement Village resident, died May 10, 1995 at Lakin, Kansas. The fifth son of Olis and Iona McKinney Goodnight was born November 10, 1933 at the family ranch in Ditch Valley, Harper Co. Oklahoma. The family moved to Englewood, Kansas before John was a year old. He attended school in Englewood and graduated from Englewood High School in 1954. He served in the United States Army from March 4, 1955 to March 3, 1958, much of that time being spent in Germany. From 1958-1963, John was in the U.S. Army Reserves and received a Honorable Discharge on February 28, 1963 at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri.

John married Elizabeth Keller and to this union two children were born. John was employed as a truck driver for Barber County, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, A. G. Goodnight.

John was a member of the Englewood Christian Church. His happy disposition and loving ways made him special to all who knew him. He enjoyed being around people and very seldom forgot a name of those he met.

Survivors include his daughter and son, three brothers, Ronald of Lakin, Kansas, Donald of Meade, KS., Olis and, his sister, Lila Lea, also two grandchildren.

Services were held in the Englewood Community Auditorium, Englewood, Kansas with Chaplin Lt. Col. P.M. Cousins, USAF Ret., and Clyde Kelley, Pastor, Englewood Christian Church. Music was provided by his nieces and included selections: "Joy Comes in the Morning," and "Amazing Grace." Pallbearers were seven of his nephews. Interment was in the Englewood Cemetery, Englewood, KS with the Ashland American Legion Post providing Military Graveside Honors.
