Charles Don Goodnight, 71 died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000 at Via Christi Medical, St. Francis Campus, Wichita, Sedgwick Co., KS
He was born March 30, 1928, at Ashland, Clark Co., KS., the son of Olis G. Sr. and Iona McKinney Goodnight. He graduated from Englewood High School in 1946 and from Ponca City (OK) School of Aeronautics in 1950. He had served in the U.S. Navy. He was a lifetime resident of the Englewood and Meade area, moving to Meade in 1950. He was a pilot instructor and farmer.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Meade County Historical Society, the Kansas State Historical Society and Pioneer/Krier Museum of Ashland; a committee member of the Harold Krier Air Show of Ashland, co-founder of the Cowboy Heritage Festival of Dodge City, member of Boot Hill Museum Association of Dodge City, KS., honorary lifetime member of Old Trail drivers Association of San Antonio, TX. and volunteer FAA Flight Safety Councilor.
On June 1, 1952, he married Ellen Painter at the ranch home of her parents, Bill and Blanch (Tillery) Painter located southeast of Meade. She survives.
Other survivors include 3 sons and 1 daughter, 2 brothers of Englewood and his twin brother of Lakin, KS, 1 sister and 4 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, A. G., and John Goodnight.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 12 at the Meade Baptist Church with Rev. Harry Fink presiding. Burial was in the Englewood Cemetery, Englewood, Clark, KS.
