Funeral services for Mary Talley Anderson were held Tuesday, June 21 at 2pm from the Jones and Sons Funeral Chapel. She died Monday, June 20 in an Atlanta hospital after a short illness. Burial to follow in Hillcrest Cemetery.

She was survived by two brothers, Lewis Talley of Villa Rica and George Talley of Miami, Florida; three sisters Faye Hosey of Bremen, Mrs. John Powell of Statesboro and Mrs. Hugh Richards of Carrollton, and additional extended relatives.

She was the daughter of the late Walter M. and Mary Roberds Talley, born in Villa Rica. She attended the Villa Rica schools and received her degree from Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, where she was president of her graduating class. She did graduate work at the Univ of Virginia and the Univ of Alabama, and held a Master's Degree in Journalism.

Her teaching career spanned 40 years and was a faculty member of the Birmingham, Alabama school system from 1926 until returning home in 1934 when she married Hugh Dan Anderson of Marietta. He preceded her in death in 1948. She retired from teaching in 1968.

She was civic minded after her retirement. She was a member of Villa Rica Presbyterian Church, teach Bible lessons for 17 years. She pursued writing with articles published in Georgia Life Magazine, the Atlanta Constitution and the Villa Rican.

She was a member of the Villa Rica Bicentennial Committee, and researched and wrote the History of Villa Rica, completing the book for the bicentennial birthday of our country (1976).
