George A Clark, president of the Brown Knitting Co and for years active in business and church affairs of the village, died suddenly at his home on Liberty street Tuesday night, April 3rd at eleven o'clock.
Mr. Clark was trustee of the village for several years, trustee and president of the Board of Education, president of the Board of Trade, and superintendent of the Presbyterian Sunday school. During the war he was fuel Administrator and helped put the Liberty bond and other drives He was one of the organizers of the Wyoming County Community Hospital Association and its president for several years. At the time of his death Mr Clark was honorary president of the hospital association, trustee and elder of the Presbyterian church, member of the Republican county committee, having been reelected at the primary election the day he died, and trustee of Auburn Theological seminary. He was also a member of Warsaw Lodge, No. 549 F.&A.M.
While a resident of Amsterdam he held the office of alderman for two years, was sewer commissioner four years and a member of the Board of Education for ten years He was also director of the Board of Trade.
On August16, 1878 he married Mariett Whitlock. She died February 18, 1927. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. W.E. Jackson and Mrs. Charles Johnson of Warsaw, three grandchildren, George Johnson, Janet and William Clark Jackson; two brothers, Frank W. Clark of Amsterdam, N.Y. and Theodore H. Clark of Andes, N.Y. and one sister, Mrs. Adelaide Kilbourne of Amsterdam A daughter Mita died May 28, 1895.
The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at the home with the Rev. George D. Miller officiating. The body will be taken to Amsterdam for burial beside his wife.
