Paul Duff Beight, 90, of Albany died Wednesday at Albany General Hospital.

Mr. Beight was born in East Palestine, Ohio, the second of six children of John and Olive (Duff) Beight. He grew up in Albany, graduating from Albany High School in 1930. He graduated from Oregon Normal School (now Western Oregon University) in 1933 and earned his teaching certificate.

He married Eleanor Frances Bell on June 19, 1935, at the Whitespires Church parsonage in Albany.

He taught at Denny School near Lebanon and at Grand Prairie and Oakville schools near Albany. Beginning in 1938, he worked for Albany school districts 5 and 8 and taught at Madison Elementary, Albany High, Central Elementary and Memorial Junior High schools. He retired in 1976, after 43 years of teaching.

Mr. Beight earned his real estate license and worked part time for Willamette Land Co. from 1947 to 1950. In 1951 he started his own real estate office, Valley Real Estate. He sold real estate part time until 1989.

He belonged to the United Presbyterian Church throughout his life and was a deacon. He was a charter member of Albany Multiple Listing and a 46-year member of the Elks Lodge.

In 1983 he and his wife bought a motor home and traveled with the Good Sam Ready Roamers for the next 10 years. Mr. Beight enjoyed fishing and swimming at the YMCA. He was active in Boy Scouts, helping test boys for their merit badges.

Surviving are wife Eleanor; son Richard of Monmouth; daughter Lois Schrenk of Salem; sister Ruth Dawson of Albany; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by son David who died in 1966, and by brother Don and sisters Kathryn, Esther and Doris.
