He was born on Jan. 7, 1904, in Centralia, Illinois to Walter M. and Lutie E. O'Brien Roper. He moved with his parents to Idaho in 1919 and they settled in Arbon Valley. He attended Green Top County School and the Pauline School.
On Oct. 13, 1924, he married Madelyn Margaret England in Pocatello. They lived for many years in the Arbon Valley, where Mr. Roper was a substitute mail carrier, and school bus driver and was employed as a government trapper for two years. In 1940 they moved to American Falls and he worked for construction companies and different farmers.
In 1945 they moved to Pocatello where they have resided since. Mr. Roper continued in construction, working for the State Highway Department as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the Methodist Church.
Among the survivors are his son, Guy, of Soda Springs.
Funeral services were Monday, Nov. 16, in Manning Funeral Chapel with burial in the Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
