Obit: Mrs. Altman Of Arlington Dies at Age 81
ARLINGTON, Aug. 24 (Spl).-Mrs. Martha Lugenia Altman, 81, widow of longtime Arlington Mayor Wylie F. Altman, died Tuesday in a Dallas hospital. She had been In failing health for some time.
Mrs. Altman was the former Martha Lugenia Whorton, member of a pioneer West Texas family. She was born in Georgia but her family came to Texas and settled in Roscoe in Nolan County.
She was a charter member of the Roscoe Methodist Church.
Her late husband was mayor of Arlington from 1935 to 1947. He was in the mercantile business here for more than 50 years, operating Altman Ladies Store until two years before his death in 1950.
Mrs. Altman was a member of the board of Arlington Methodist Church and was past matron of the Order of Eastern Star No. 249 here.
Survivors include a son, Elvis W. Altman of Arlington; two daughters, Mrs. Sol Parks of Houston and Mrs. Jack A. Collins of Dallas, and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p. m. Wednesday in Moore Chapel here, with Revs. C. A. Sutton and Chet C. Henson officiating. Burial will be in Parkdale Cemetery here with graveside services by the Order of the Eastern Star.
