RUSSELLVILLE — The Rev. Bernard Lee Allen, 73, of Russellville died Feb. 28, 2009, at Logan Memorial Hospital.

The Casey County native was born Aug. 6, 1935. He was a Methodist minister for 50 years, a Kentucky Colonel and an admiral of Kentucky Water Ways. He was an avid bird and coon hunter. He was a son of the late Patnie Allen and Edith Campbell Allen.

Funeral is at 2 p.m. EST Tuesday at Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Liberty, with burial in Whited Cemetery in Liberty. Visitation begins at 5 p.m. today at Young Funeral Home, Russellville chapel, and begins at noon EST Tuesday at the church.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Bethel United Methodist Church, c/o Ruth Stuart, 907 Orchard Drive, Russellville, KY 42276.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Allen; three sons, Darrell Lee Allen of Russellville, Timothy Wayne Allen of Elkton and the Rev. Paul Allen of Sparta, Tenn.; a daughter, Sherrie Lynn Allen McGuire of Russellville; two brothers, Dr. Arvil Allen of Louisville and the Rev. James C. Allen of Jeffersonville, Ind.; two sisters, Wina Miller of Cincinnati and Linda Reed of Liberty; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
