Mrs. Leffel Goes To Reward At Age Of Ninety Years
Thursday night about nine o'clock, Mrs. Catherine Leffel died at the home of her son, Andrew Leffel, eight miles northwest of town. She had been in failing health for some time, and had been unable to walk for more than two years, but her last sickness was brief, she being confined to her bed only two or three days.
The funeral services were held at the South Pleasant church Sunday morning at ten o'clock, conducted by Rev. E. K. Miner, assisted by Revs. Kane and Wright, of Silver Lake. The funeral services were largely attended, and the burial was had in the cemetery near the church.
Catherine Gordon, wife of Samuel Leffel, was born in Clark County, Ohio, May 15, 1817. She died at the home of her son, Andrew Leffel, three miles south of Silver Lake, November 29, 1906, aged 89 years, 6 months and 14 days.
She was married to Samuel Leffel in November 1837, the marriage taking place in Ohio.
About two years later, they moved to Kosciusko County, settling on what is now known as the Vance farm.
About fifty-eight years ago, they moved to what is now known as the Leffel farm, six miles northwest of town. There Mr. Leffel died about six years ago, and there Mrs. Leffel continued to make her home with her son, Andrew, until about two years ago, when they moved to a farm near the South Pleasant church.
To Mr. and Mrs. Leffel was born a family of twelve children, seven of whom are living, they being Jacob Leffel, William Leffel, John Leffel, Andrew Leffel, all living in the vicinity of the old home, and Mrs. Esta Crill, of South Whitley, Mrs. Miller, of Peru and Mrs. T. A. Bussard, of this city.
