Founder of Bethany Presbyterian Church. Fought in the American Revolution.

Married Jane Brandon Armstrong on 5 March 1784 in Rowan County, North Carolina.

At the close of the Revolutionary War, Ninian moved with his family from Pennsylvania to Rowan County, North Carolina about 1782, about age 18. Ninian McMahon Steele does not appear to have served in the Revolutionary War, though both his father, and uncle, Capt. Ninian Steele (1738 - 1813), did.
