Lucile Hurst Goodgame, 83, of Laurel, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2001, at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel, with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery. The Revs. Gordon Goodgame and Harold Ishee will officiate. She was a retired mathematics teacher, serving as mathematics supervisor of the Jones County schools for many years and teaching in the Laurel City Schools. A graduate of Jones County Agricultural High School, Jones County Junior College and the University of Southern Mississippi, she was involved in many local organizations including the Altrusa Club, Delta Kappa Gamma Society for Women Educators, the Christian Women's Club, Pendorff Cemetery Association, Jones County Retired Teacher's Association, Mississippi State Retired Teacher's Association and Mississippi Association of Educators. She was a former recipient of the Diana Award. She held the oldest membership at Harmony Baptist Church in Laurel. She was devoted to her family and loved by many. She was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Goodgame, and two brothers, Joe Hurst and Bill Hurst. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Billy D. Goodgame and Marion Goodgame of Plano, Texas; two daughters, Mary G. Soley and Kay G. Valentine, both of Laurel; grandsons, Jeff Soley of Houston, Texas, John Soley of Lafayette, La., Joe Soley and Doug Holifield, both of Laurel, Sean Goodgame of Columbus, Ga., Stephen Goodgame of Dallas, Texas, and Scott Goodgame of Ft. Bliss, Texas; granddaughters, Debbie Cunningham of Franklin, Tenn., Jennifer McCalley of San Diego, Calif., and Suzzane Fogliasso of Placentia, Calif.; one sister, Juanita Hurst Myer of Lake Isabelle, Calif.; two brothers, Allan Hurst of Laurel and Sam Hurst of Atlanta, Ga.; and 18 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Jeff Soley, Joe Soley, Clarence Soley, Sean Goodgame, Stephen Goodgame, Allan Elliott, Doug Holifield and Ronnie Hurst. Visitation will be held from 5-9 p.m. Wednesday, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel, which is in charge of arrangements.
