Bill was born 27 Nov 1945 in Little Rock, Pulaski, Arkansas to Robert William and Clara Louise Van Horn Blackburn. Bill was the second son of five sons and two daughters. Bill's father was in the Army and after 16 years in he got out of the Army and went to Gary, Lake, Indiana. He found a job with the help of his uncle and had his wife drive her and the five children to Indiana and that's where they settled. They settled into a part of Gary called Glen Park. Bill went to Lew Wallace High School. Robert and Clara bought a house in East Gary in the early 1960's when Bill was in high school and he didn't want to transfer to a different high school. He decided to quit school and enter the Army. He enlisted 30 August 1963 and was discharged 17 August 1966. He spent 3 years in the Army spending time in Germany and Viet Nam. After his service he spent time doing Civil Defense Service. He spent time on the CB radio and his handle was "GoldenHawk". He loved to bowl and bowled on leagues at Cressmore Lanes in Hobart. Bill loved to fish, he also liked to play cards, do jigsaw puzzles and play dice games. He worked at EJ&E Railroad for a time and he worked as a delivery person for K&H News and The Post Tribune for years delivering newspapers all around Lake County. He never married, but the last 4-5 years of his life he lived with a women he went to high school with and was good friends with her and her deceased husband, Kathleen I. Rockhill Garrison. They both were very bad diabetics and both disabled. Her family helped take care of her and Bill and they moved to Ohio to live with her son. They got active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints but had not become members before Bill died at the Henry County Hospital on 4 Sept 2007 in the emergency room at Napoleon, Henry, Ohio. He was preceeded in death by his father, Robert William Blackburn, and his mother Clara Louise Van Horn Blackburn. He is survived by his four brothers; Robert William Jr., Richard Lee, Herbie Allen, and Jimmy Dee and two sisters; Janet Joanne and Judy Grace. He is also survived by Kathleens children and grandchildren.
