Emma Almet Davis was the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth Betterton Davis. Her father was a blacksmith and wagon repairman. Henry was born in Somerton, Somerset, England and immigrated to America in 1849. He then settled in Knox County, Illinois where he married Elizabeth on November 14, 1858. Emma was one of thirteen children.

Emma married Jacob Lee Wisdom on January 5, 1887 in Abington, Knox County, Illinois. Jacob had already prepared a homestead in Kansas prior to the wedding so the couple set out to their new home.

They lived in a sod house for several years where their first two children were born. By the birth of the third child, Jacob had moved a house to their land and this was now their home.

They moved into Colby in 1920 after they retired from farming. They continued to cultivate a large garden and still had some livestock on their large property.

Jacob died in 1933, and Emma continued to live in the house on Fifth Street but her health began to fail. She moved to her daughter's home in Hammond, Indiana and remained there until her death in 1938.

Most of the above biography is from "Our Ancestors, Havlik, LaHue, Ryman, Wisdom" by Laurence L. Wisdom now under the stewardship of Jan Lange.
