Thorndike – Gerald W. Fowler, 89, died Wednesday, October 12, 1994, at his home following a brief illness. He was born in Carlisle, New Brunswick, Canada, on July 16, 1905, the son of Stephen and Annie (Melvin) Fowler.

He lived in Colorado until the accidental death of his father. The family returned to Canada in 1914. In 1936, he moved to Thorndike with his family. His first wife, Iva (Prosser) Fowler died in 1978.

He was a member of the Center Thorndike Baptist Church and served as Deacon. For many years he planned the Old Home Sunday Service there each year. He attended the Knox Ridge Baptist Church. He had previously held various positions in town and county organizations.

Survivors include his wife, Bertha (Sherwood) Fowler of Thorndike; two sons, Floyd and Stephen Fowler of Thorndike, five daughters, Jean Charity of Fairfield, Fern Hoskins of Scarborough, Ruth Thompson of Northport, Delta Crawshaw of Weymouth, Mass., and Dorothy Mexcur of Warwick, Mass.; six brothers and sisters, Laura Cogswell, Lloyd Melvin and Marian Palmer of Hartland, NB, Canada, Barry Fowler of Zephyrhills, Fla., S. Gilbert Fowler of Searsport and Mildred Stoddard of Florenceville, NB, Canada; 37 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; five step-children; and 19 step-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Knox Ridge Baptist Church with the Rev. Stephen Cook officiating. Burial will be in the Center Yard, East Thorndike.
