Mrs. Lucille Morel Luke, 83, born April 4, 1920, departed this earth November 26, 2003. She was a life time resident of Bay St. Louis. She touched each of our lives with much love and inspiration. She was precious to us as she brought joy and happiness to her family and many friends.
She is preceded in death by her devoted husband of 45 years, Leroy T. Luke Sr. Also preceding her in death are parents, Hamilton Sr. and Hortense Morel of Bay St. Louis, sisters, Lena Simolke of Bay St. Louis, Marjorie Morreale of Bay St. Louis, brothers, Edward Morel, Sr. of New Orleans, La. and Hamilton Morel Jr., of Bay St. Louis.
Survivors include son, Leroy T. Luke Jr. and wife, Judy of Laurel, Miss., daughter, Melva Fisher and husband, Jerry of Waveland, Miss., daughter Prima Luke and companion Jenny Tomson of Waveland, Miss., grandchildren, Allison Luke McAuliffe and husband Chris of Laurel, Miss., Paxton Luke of Laurel, Miss., Anthony Fisher and wife Keri of Mandeville, La., great-granddaughter, Madeline Fisher of Mandeville, La., sister, Violet Dedeaux of Waveland, Miss., and brother, Rudolph Morel Sr. of New Orleans, La. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Luke was a member of Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration. She graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in Bay St. Louis. She was also involved in many civic and community organizations. She received numerous awards for her hard work in the American Legion Auxiliary and the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary. She loved her community, and one way she demonstrated her love was by teaching crafts at the Senior Citizens Center in Bay St. Louis. She also was a member of the Hancock Historical Society.
Mrs. Luke was a well-known local artist. Her oil paintings, quilts and pine needle baskets were the greatest examples of her work.
She was invited to the World's Fair, in New Orleans to demonstrate pine needle basket making.
She had a love for gardening and often won Garden of the Month. She loved to share her plants with family and friends, and will always cherish them knowing the love and labor she put into them.
Mrs. Luke will be missed by her family and friends.
Visitation will be held at Edmond Fahey Funeral Home in Bay St. Louis, Saturday, November 29, 2003, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. at which time the Procession will leave the Funeral Home for a 12:00 noon Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow at the Gulf Coast Memorial Cemetery and Mausoleum in Bay St. Louis, Miss.
