Evelyn Johnson Barnes Cason, 80, of Offerman, passed away Sunday afternoon, February 22, 2009, at Baptist Village Retirement Community.

A native of Pierce County, she had lived in Wayne County for many years before moving back to Pierce County in 1983. She was a housewife and farmer's wife but had also worked at several sewing factories over the years. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where she and her husband had also maintained the church and its grounds for many years. She loved to cook, garden and quilt and will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a daughter of the late James W. "Jim" Johnson Sr. and Melinda Rigdon Johnson. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas R. "T. R." Barnes; four sons, Jamie Barnes, Joe Barnes, Thomas Barnes and Raymond Cason; a grandson, Jamie Barnes; a great-granddaughter, Miranda Madray; a sister, Annie Carroll and both of her brothers, Martin Johnson and Jake Johnson.

Survivors include her husband, John Randle Cason, Offerman; six daughters and four sons-in-law, Linda Brinkley, Lawrenceville, Peggy and Melvin Dover, Screven, Margaret and Clint Bargeron, Blackshear, Gloria and Terry Rapier, Maryville, TN, Anita and Joe Gardner, Jesup and Sandra Davis, Hortense; four sons and daughters-in-law, Rusty and Gail Barnes and Billy and Tena Barnes all of Jesup, Ronnie and Marlene Cason, Patterson and J. H. and Margie Cason, Blackshear; a daughter-in-law, Karen Barnes, Jesup; a sister, Betty Jean Johnson, Suwanee; 43 grandchildren, 78 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, from the Bethel Baptist Church.

Interment will follow in the Screven Cemetery.

The body will lie in state at the church from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour.
