WEST RUTLAND - Howard L. McLaughlin, 70, died Feb. 12, 2009, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

He was born in West Rutland, Aug. 29, 1938, the son of Allen L. and Mabel (Anderson) McLaughlin.

Mr. McLaughlin was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.

He was employed by Vermont Marble, and Gawet Marble and Granite. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Surviving are a daughter, Anna Lang of Proctor; a stepdaughter, Theresa Crandall of Rutland; a stepson, Donald McLaughlin of Burlington; two sisters, Barbara Gallo of Rutland and Evelyn Steele of New York; his former wife, Rose (Hyjek) McLaughlin of Pittsford; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by five brothers, Richard McLaughlin, Allen McLaughlin Jr., Ernest McLaughlin, Robert McLaughlin and Donald McLaughlin.

A celebration of his life will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16, at the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland. Burial will be held at a later date in Riverside Cemetery in Proctor.
